Teacher Heather Siegel
I was hungry for community experiences that would nurture my son's social-emotional development when I discovered this treasure that is The Wonder Studio. In my son’s toddler years, he and I delighted in the playful and creative exploration at the surface of every class.
On a deeper level, we felt supported and guided by the teachers as we navigated the usual challenges of children learning to be in community with one another. Years later, my son and I still cherish our Wonder Studio memories - including the new ones we are making! Needless to say, I am thrilled to be teaching at Wonder Studio!
My personal story with Wonder Studio might hint to you my passion for working at this very special place. I bring extensive experience in therapeutic mindfulness, meditation, and yoga. I spent the last decade (and counting) working full time in a variety of mindfulness-based capacities -including Lead Teacher in Mindfulness Practices for Children at St. Petersburg Yoga. My background ranges from private therapy to group classes to designing and leading public workshops, professional teacher training programs, and continuing education programs. Working with youth is one of my specialties.
My work with children is grounded in social-emotional and physical wellbeing. I lead with empathy, logic, gentle encouragement, and clear instruction. Using the interests and challenges that organically arise with children, I teach mindfulness as a life skill. Common themes with children include emotional awareness and processing, healthy communication with self and others, concepts of balance in everyday life, challenges as opportunities for growth, and how differences make us stronger.
I have a B.A. in Applied Anthropology from The University of South Florida in Tampa, focused primarily on cultural and biological studies. I also spent a summer studying at The University of Cambridge in the U.K. I hold certification through The Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 500 and YACEP, and I have logged well over 15,000 professional teaching hours.
I look forward to sharing the journey with you in our Wonder Studio community!
